Why Isn’t Clockaudio “Teams Certified?” (And Why That’s Not a Problem)

We get this question a lot. And it makes sense. With Zoom and Microsoft Teams dominating the hybrid meeting world, it’s only natural that clients, AV integrators, and end-users alike want to know if their go-to pro audio brands — like Clockaudio — are certified on these platforms.

So, this month, we wanted to tackle it head-on and bring some clarity to a topic that causes unnecessary confusion.

First, Let’s Talk About Zoom

Back in 2021, we proudly announced that Clockaudio’s CUI-2 USB microphone interface supports Zoom mute sync compatibility. This means when you press the mute button on a microphone connected to the CUI-2, the mute status will not only engage at the mic but will also reflect on the Zoom app itself — and vice versa.

You mute in Zoom? The mic shows it. You mute at the mic? Zoom shows it. Seamless and intuitive.

This feature helps remote presenters and boardroom users stay focused on their presentation, not their mouse. And for integrators, it’s one more way Clockaudio products make installations smarter and user experiences smoother.

Now — What About Microsoft Teams?

Here’s where it gets a bit more nuanced. Microsoft does not offer Teams certification for “microphones only.” That’s not just a Clockaudio thing — that’s a Microsoft thing.

According to Microsoft’s current guidelines, Teams certification is only granted to:

  1. Headsets and speakerphones (which include both mic and speaker), and
  2. Full room systems (like Teams Rooms kits with mic, speaker, camera, and user interface).

In short, there’s no path for standalone microphones — even high-quality, pro-grade ones — to become Teams certified. If a product doesn’t have built-in speakers or Teams-specific controls, it’s simply not eligible.

So, when a customer asks, “Why isn’t Clockaudio Teams Certified?” the real answer is: Because Microsoft doesn’t certify mics on their own. It's not reluctance on our part. It's a limitation of the certification program itself.

But Can You Still Use Clockaudio Mics with Teams?

Absolutely.

Clockaudio microphones — including those connected via the CUI-2 — work flawlessly with Microsoft Teams. Audio input is crisp, professional, and reliable. Your team or client will sound great. What won’t happen is that the mute status will reflect visually within the Teams UI like it does in Zoom. That’s due to the lack of integration protocol Microsoft offers for mic-only devices.

But functionally, your Clockaudio mic works just fine. Every day, around the world, they’re being used in Teams-based environments across a wide range of applications — from corporate conference rooms to higher education lecture halls.

What If Teams Certification is a Must?

We understand that some enterprises or projects — have made Teams certification mandatory for all AV devices in their meeting spaces. When that’s the case, the only option is to choose a certified device from Microsoft’s list — which will usually be a headset, speakerphone, or full Teams Rooms system.

But if you are really committed to quality sound, and know you want to integrate Clockaudio microphones into these kinds of environments, it’s worth discussing what level of certification is truly required and if that applies to every endpoint device — or only the core conferencing system.

Wrapping It Up

We hope this helps clear the air. Clockaudio is committed to supporting all leading platforms — Zoom, Teams, Webex, you name it — with audio excellence that installers trust and end-users love. And while we can’t get a Teams certification for a mic alone (because it doesn’t exist), we continue to evolve our products with real-world use in mind — from mute sync to flexible integration.
